Neher: Tell Them What They Did Right
When the learner has handled a situation in an effective manner, it is important to comment on the specific good work and the impact it had. Point out what language or reasoning the learner used specifically to provide examples, and to be sure your learner knows why what they did was good.
Sample Feedback
- Your problem-solving in that case was excellent because you didn't come to a premature conclusion.
- You did a great job connecting with your patient using non-verbal cues. You were looking her directly in the eye and nodding appropriately.
Rationale
- Skills in learners may not be well established and need to be reinforced.
- You are firmly reinforcing a competent behavior.
- Being specific ensures the learner understands what you are praising.
