Accreditation Status
Accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE): 2022 Comprehensive Evaluation
Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the NECHE indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one that has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.
Accreditation by the NECHE isn't partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution. The next site visit is scheduled for 2032.
Inquiries regarding the accreditation status by the Commission should be directed to staff of the institution. Individuals also may contact: New England Commission of Higher Education
In addition to being accredited by NECHE, the T.H. Chan School of Medicine is also accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) which determined in 2021 that the medical education program leading to the MD degree is in compliance with their standards (available to current UMass Chan, UMass Chan-Baystate, and UMass Memorial faculty, staff, and students). The next site visit is scheduled for 2028.
In addition to being accredited by NECHE, the Tan Chingfen Graduate School of Nursing is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) which determined in 2020 that its master's degree program in Nursing was accredited for 10 years, extending to June, 2030; the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program was accredited in 2015 for 10 years, extending to June, 2025; and the post-graduate APRN certificate was accredited in 2015 for 10 years, extending through June, 2025.
