Curriculum & Applicant Requirements

Thank you for your interest in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) fellowship Program at UMass Chan Medical School.  The UMass MFM fellowship is a 3-year program. There are currently 10 physicians and 1 nurse practitioner faculty in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division. We are dedicated to the education of the fellows through clinical experience, didactic lectures, research mentorship, and the option for course work specifically incorporated into the curriculum in order to obtain a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation during the fellowship.

Each fellow is given 12 months of dedicated research time within the 3 years of fellowship as well as a diverse clinical experience including 2 months of outpatient Maternal-Fetal Medicine, 2 months of supervisory labor and delivery, 4 months of inpatient antepartum, 1 month in surgical Intensive Care Unit, 5 months of ultrasound, 2 months of genetics, as well as 2 elective months for the fellow to further pursue a specific interest in the field. The faculty will ensue throughout their training that the fellows meet goals and objectives which are specific to each rotation and include each of the 6 ACGME Core Competencies.

The UMass Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship program was first accredited by the American Board of Obstetricians Gynecologists (ABOG) and by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2017. It is approved for 1 fellow every year. The fellowship curriculum has been designed to follow the  General and Special Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in the Subspecialty of Maternal-Fetal Medicine as well as the Guide to Learning in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
