Rotations

Our training program provides a comprehensive learning experience with extensive clinical critical care exposure and the required rotations and core curricular learning necessary with progressive autonomy from the first year to the second year to provide excellent training in preparation for independent practice and board eligibility for certification in neurocritical care.  Our program also provides unique robust trauma exposure, and cutting-edge comprehensive stroke center care with world-class Neurointerventional Radiology Staff and faculty of the New England Center for Stroke Research as well as a large Telestroke Network covering Central Massachusetts and beyond. An Award-winning electronic ICU supported by an autonomous multidisciplinary critical care operations committee, school-based simulation center for procedures and bedside ultrasound led by critical care experts, and an environment that emphasizes humanistic practice and collegial cooperation. All on the same campus where cutting-edge genetics research is being conducted by nationally renowned physicians and scientists and experts in mRNA technology.

Our program also offers exceptional flexibility and gives the fellows an opportunity to tailor the program and curriculum to their interest and individualize their learning. 

Neurocritical Care Unit Rotation:
Fellows will work closely with the midlevel providers and residents and will be given increasing autonomy to perform the duties of an attending in the neurocritical care unit. block rotation per year:

• Year One - Fellows will spend seven blocks a year in NCC
• Year Two - Fellows will spend six blocks a year in NCC

Procedure and airway rotation:
The fellow, upon the start of the fellowship, will take part in simulations for major procedures and airway skills. Fellows will work closely with anesthesia and critical care departments to obtain exposure and garner expertise in various procedures. 

Telemedicine rotation:
Fellows will spend one block each year dedicated to working in the electronic ICU as well as telestroke for exposure in telemedicine.

Stroke rotation:
Critical care fellows will work on the stroke service and gain further experience during stroke emergencies.

Research and Education:
Fellows will have dedicated research time during both years of fellowship as well as opportunities to participate in educational programs and hone their teaching skills.

Selective rotations:
Fellows will be exposed to a variety of rotations including medical, surgical, and cardiac ICU.

Elective Rotations:
Fellows will have the opportunity to learn procedures within their interest in addition to EEG, interventional radiology, neurosurgery, transcranial doppler, infectious disease, and palliative care.

Simulation:
Fellows will participate in a wide variety of simulations including those for airway, bedside procedures, critical care ultrasound, neurologic emergencies, palliative care and brain death. The fellows interested in education will also have the opportunity to create and run simulations.
