Welcome to the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship
The University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School has one ACGME accredited one-year fellowship position in Clinical Neurophysiology. The program will provide clinical and didactic experience in Electromyography and Nerve Conduction studies and Electroencephalography with additional training in the broad area of Clinical Neurophysiology (sleep studies, evoked potentials, intraoperative monitoring and autonomic testing). There will be ample experience in the continuity specialty clinics: Neuromuscular/MDA and Epilepsy. After successfully completing the fellowship, fellows are eligible to take subspecialty boards offered by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Our neuromuscular program is co-led by world renowned neuromuscular and ALS specialist, Robert Brown, MD, PhD, Phil, and Director of Neuromuscular Diseases, Lawrence Hayward, MD. We have a state of the art interdisciplinary clinical and research program in ALS; New England’s first and only interdisciplinary Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy program led by Dr. Brenda Wong, in which interested fellows are encouraged to participate. There is ample opportunity to get involved in clinical or basic research in neurophysiology, as well as residents and medical students’ teaching. Dr. Lan Qin is the director of the program.
We also have a NAEC level 4 comprehensive epilepsy program which is supportive for patient centered advanced training in all aspects of epilepsy care. This includes an epilepsy monitoring unit for diagnostic and pre-surgical workup, bedside continuous video EEG monitoring, and epilepsy surgery experiences. Epilepsy surgery conducted in our center includes standard temporal lobectomy, tailored or multilobar resections, electrocorticography, stereotactically-implanted depth electrodes (sEEG) and/or subdural grids, hemispherectomy, Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS), and Responsive neurostimulation (RNS) placement.
