Dan McCollum was a Biochemistry major at the University of Illinois, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1987. He studied peroxisomal protein import at the University of California San Diego, earning a Ph.D. in 1993. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Cell Biology at Vanderbilt University, where he was awarded an NIH postdoctoral fellowship to study cell division in fission yeast. He became an independent investigator at the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research in 1996, and joined the faculty at the UMass Chan Medical School 1997. His research focuses on how the dynamic interplay between the cytoskeleton and signaling networks control cell proliferation.
