Fostering Oral Case Presentation Skills
Purpose: To foster students’ competence and confidence in oral communication of patient information (e.g., HX, PE, A/P) to supervising residents/faculty in a variety of educational settings.
Objectives: 1) To develop and implement a curriculum featuring guiding principles for constructing and tailoring oral case presentations specific to educational settings and courses. 2) To encourage focused, timely behavioral feedback from faculty/residents to medical students on oral presentations
Educational Methods: STAGE model as framework/guiding principles for teaching/strengthening oral presentation skills; Trigger tapes for teaching medical students/residents; Oral Presentation Skills OSCE
Applications: 3rd year orientation (2-hour module); 3rd year medicine clerkship (End of Clerkship OSCE); family medicine residency teaching workshop; faculty development workshops for clinical faculty
