Research
RLIM is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that is encoded by X-linked gene Rlim. While Rlim mRNA is widely expressed in many organs and cell types, RLIM protein is more selectively detected and mainly located in the nucleus, where it controls not only levels and dynamics of various proteins and protein complexes involved in transcriptional regulation. In female mice, Rlim functions as a major epigenetic regulator of nurturing tissues. Rlim promotes the survival of milk-producing alveolar cells in mammary glands of pregnant and lactating females, and is crucial for imprinted X chromosome inactivation. In contrast, males lacking Rlim are born at Mendelian ratios and grow up into adulthood, but display defective spermatogenesis and sperm maturation. My current research focuses on:
- Functions of the Rlim gene in mice
- Genetic and epigenetic regulation by Rlim in mice
- Functions of the ubiquitin ligase Rlim in mice
