Promoting the Health of Parents & Children: Addressing Perinatal Mental Health by Building Medical Provider Capacity Through Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs
The UMass Chan Medical School’s Lifeline4 for Moms team, in partnership with the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance (MMHLA), has developed a report titled Promoting the Health of Parents & Children: Addressing Perinatal Mental Health by Building Medical Provider Capacity Through Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs.
We are excited to share this resource with you and encourage you to share it widely to help in advocacy and awareness efforts.
Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs leverage scarce psychiatric resources by providing education, support, and resources to frontline healthcare providers so that they address and treat mental health conditions and substance use disorders in perinatal individuals. The report summarizes the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Program model and its individual and national impact.
MMHLA and Lifeline for Moms published a companion 2-page Fact Sheet on Perinatal Psychiatry Access Programs which provides a brief overview and is a perfect "leave-behind" for providers, legislators, and other partners and advocates.
