Sharmilee Korets, MD - Tatnuck House Mentor
Milee Korets grew up in Southern Rhode Island and completed her undergraduate education at Brown University where she majored in Philosophy. She went on to attend medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY where in addition to learning medicine, she gained a deep appreciation for the "real" little Italy. She completed her residency at Columbia University in ObGyn and her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at New York University.
Presently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Gynecologic Oncology division at the UMass Chan Medical School. Clinical interests include the comprehensive care of women with gynecologic malignancies and their families, including surgical, medical, and chemotherapeutic treatments as well as emotional and psychological support through these treatments. She also has an interest in gynecologic cancer prevention, risk reduction in high risk populations, fertility sparing treatments, and palliative care. She is interested in the emotional support and education of gynecologic cancer survivors and their families and is working towards increasing the number of formal programs that support these groups. Teaching interests include undergraduate medical education courses as well as surgical and bedside clinical skills education of ObGyn residents. She directs the fourth year elective sub –intership in gynecologic oncology. She has received multiple teaching and humanism awards throughout her education and training, and is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
She lives in Massachusetts with her family and enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband, running, cooking, and eating.
