Kristina Gracey, MD MPH - Burncoat House Mentor
Dr. Kristina Gracey grew up about 45 minutes from Worcester in rural Connecticut and attended Trinity College in Hartford, studying neuroscience and art. She then moved to Boston to perform research for 3 years at Brigham and Women's Hospital and completed her Master of Public Health degree in Maternal and Child Health at Boston University. She earned her medical degree at Albany Medical College and completed her residency education in Family Medicine at Albany Medical Center before joining UMass in 2016.
Kristina is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. She served as the Women’s Health Education Director for the Worcester Family Medicine Residency program for 7 years. She is the Associate Director of Perinatal Services at UMass Memorial Maternity Center and perinatal lead at the Barre Family Health Center. She is the co-lead of the Maternity Center Community Advisory Board and is engaged in a large PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute) study with OB/GYN focused on reducing disparities of care in pregnant and postpartum patients. Kristina loves partnering with students on longitudinal projects, especially those that drive systems improvements, better patient care and community health. She is driven to teach and mentor medical students and resident physicians in the inpatient and outpatient settings, with a particular focus on hands-on physical exam, ultrasound and procedural training. Becoming a Learning Communities Mentor allows her the incredible opportunity to merge her love for supporting individual learners with her passion for teaching clinical skills while contributing meaningfully to the growth of our future physicians.
Kristina lives with her husband, three daughters, three dogs, three sheep, adopted horse and 26 chickens in Rutland, MA. She has always been a runner and currently loves marathon running, especially in the Boston Marathon, and is currently training for the 2024 New York City Marathon. Traveling locally, regionally and internationally to places where she can learn more about people in our world fills her cup. A highlight of her life was hooding graduates at the 2016 Albany Medical College graduation and she secretly hopes to be selected to do this someday at UMass Chan Medical School.
