Drs. Anumba and Rynczak Co-Presented for the APA Div. 18 Psychologists in Public Service
Date Posted: Friday, September 13, 2024Law & Psychiatry Program clinicians Natalie Anumba, PhD, ABPP, and Danielle Rynczak, JD, PsyD, ABPP along with Lara Guzman-Hosta, PsyD at Boston Medical Center, presented to the APA Division 18 Psychologists in Public Service on September 6, 2024.
Their presentation "Interdivisional Webinar Integrating Public Psychology: Culturally Responsive Practice in Public and Legal Settings" discussed racial/ethnic disparities that affect individuals across multiple life domains, including in mental health and mental health services with consideration of public sector and forensic settings. The session reviewed frameworks and conceptual models for integrating race, ethnicity, and culture (REC) into clinical conceptualizations and practice. They discussed the application of these frameworks and models to daily psychological practice in assessment, treatment, and supervision. Also discussed are challenges and barriers to culturally responsive practice, as well as means of moving forward to enact positive change in keeping with professional and ethical obligations.
