Platelets and Leukocytes During Infection
Platelet-leukocyte Interactions During Infection
Internalization of viral particles by platelets is fast, leading to the formation of heterotypic aggregates (HAGs) with leukocytes such as neutrophils and monocytes. Communication with surrounding leukocytes can be achieved not only through direct interaction (P-selectin-PSGL; CD40L-CD40) but through the release of platelet granule content and extracellular vesicle formation. A major focus in our lab is understanding how, and with which blood leukocyte population, platelets interact during the course of progression of different viral infections.
