Stephen N. Jones obtained a B.A. degree in Biology from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Baylor College of Medicine with C. Thomas Caskey, where he studied metabolic disorders in transgenic mice, and with Alan Bradley, where he studied development and the regulation of tumor suppressors using knockout mice. He joined UMass Chan in 1997, and is a Professor in the Departments of Cell Biology and Cancer Biology. He is also the founder and Director of the UMass Chan Transgenic Animal Modeling Core (Transgenic Animal Facility and Gene Targeting Facility). Steve is a member of the Cell Biology and Cancer Biology Graduate Programs, and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program. |

Michael Carr is a Cell Biology Program graduate student originally from Montréal, QC. He graduated in 2006, having majored in biochemistry. Prior to coming to UMASS, he spent 3 years working as a process chemist at a pharmaceutical company in Cambridge, MA. Mike is presently generating Mdm2 knock-in mice to investigate the role of c-Abl phosphorylation in p53 stability and function. Outside of the lab, his interests include hockey, cars, and traveling. |

Judy Gallant is a Research Associate originally from Spencer, Ma. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Anna Maria College in 1998 and joined the Transgenic Core in 1998. Judy currently performs pronuclear, blastocyst, and cryopreservation experiments in the Core. She is passionate about spending time with her family and friends, her stained glass work and her gardening. |

Hugh Gannon is a Cell Biology Program graduate student originally from Lowell, MA. He received his B.S. in Human Physiology at Boston University in 2005 and joined the Jones Lab in 2006. He is a passionate Boston sports fan and enjoys playing basketball on campus in-between experiments. Hugh is currently studying the role of ATM phosphorylation on Mdm2 function and regulation of p53 activity in epidermal stem cells. |

Joseph Gosselin is a Senior Research Scientist, and Supervisor of the Transgenic Animal Facility. He received a BS in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and has been at UMass Chan Medical School since 1993. He currently directs and assists in projects involving production of rodent models using micromanipulation of embryos, cryopreservation of rodent germplasm, and the regeneration of mouse and rat lines. |

Kathy Hoover is a Research Associate originally from Ohio. She was an RN for 12 years before leaving nursing for biotechnology in 1988. She was a microinjectionist for Xenogen Inc. in New Jersey for 13 years before joining the Jones Lab in 2003, Kathy manages the Jones Lab, various lab-associated mouse colonies, and assists in training other scientists in the genetic analysis of mice and rats. |

Marilyn Keeler is a Research Associate with an MS from the University of Minnesota. She has more than 20 years experience in several research areas, with particular experience in tissue culture and embryonic stem cells. She became the Supervisor of the Gene Targeting Facility in 2000. |

Zdenka Matijasevic (faculty web site) is an Assistant Professor in Cell Biology and joined the Jones Lab in 2004. Zdenka obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Mutagenesis from Zagreb University, Croatia. Her main research project is exploring the role of MdmX in transformation and tumorigenesis. In her free time Zdenka is dedicated to water fitness and enjoys watching basketball and tennis. Her hobby is using fluorescent images from her research to create personalized greeting cards. |

Joy Riley is a Lab Associate who has worked with the Transgenic Animal Facility since 2002. She received an Associate Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1978, and is LAT certified from the American Association for Lab Animal Science. Joy performs germplasm cryopreservation, blastocyst injections and small animal surgeries. Joy enjoys vacationing in the Caribbean, boating, and living on the lake in Webster. She is a big fan of the TV show Survivor and loves cooking Italian food. |
