Clinical Scholar Track

This is a 2-year, ACGME-certified clinical program that trains six fellows. The foundation of the fellowship is inpatient consultation in both general and transplant/immunocompromised infectious diseases. In addition, fellows maintain a longitudinal relationship with patients via a weekly outpatient clinic. Additional core experiences include microbiology, antibiotic stewardship, hospital epidemiology and infection control, public health TB care, travel medicine, HIV care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as global health. We have a Ryan White Part C grant and state contracts that fund HIV staff to care for patients. All trainees are expected to complete a clinical research project leading to a publication. Academic Research Track

This 3-year ACGME-certified infectious diseases training program is open for one fellow per year and has a strong research focus. In its current form, this program begins with a research-intensive first year followed by the core rotations described in the clinical track.  The Research Track fellows will continue to spend 6 additional months doing research during their 2 years of clinical training. For those in the 3-year program, research opportunities are available in ~10 labs directed by our faculty. These NIH-funded investigators work on a variety of infectious disease-related topics across the spectrum of basic, translation and clinical sciences.  For more info, view our research website.

The expectation is that the successful candidate in either program will sit for the ABIM subspecialty examination in Infectious Diseases following completion of their fellowship. Case-based and didactic conferences are a regular feature of the curriculum throughout the training period.
