I. Login Questions

1. How do I login?
Users should access HR Direct through the Campus Launch Page HR Direct login

I. Navigate to HR Direct from the HR website. The Secure Access Login Page will open.

II. Enter the campus account name you use to log in to your UMass e-mail and/or computer in the Campus User ID field

III. Enter the password associated with your campus account into the Password field.

IV. Select your campus in the Campus dropdown list.

V. Click the Login button. HR Direct will open.

2. I do not have access to a computer at work. How do I access my online information?
HR Direct is a web based application. You may access your information from your home computer or any computer that has access to the internet including the school library.

3. How do I get help if I cannot access my account?
If you are experiencing difficulty accessing your HR Direct account, call the Information Services Help Desk at 508-856-8643.

4. I never received my HR Direct User ID?
If you need your Campus User ID (remember, you will use the campus account name you use to log into your UMass e-mail and/or computer), contact the Information Services Help Desk at 508-856-8643.

5. What do I need to do if I forgot my Password?
If you cannot remember your HR Direct account password (remember, you will use the campus password that you use to log into your UMass e-mail and/or computer), call the Information Services help desk at 508-856-8643.

II. Personal, Payroll and Tax Questions

1. What if my personal information is incorrect?
If the personal information displayed on your HR Direct Personal information screen is incorrect, contact Human Resources at HRDatagroup@umassmed.edu.

2. What if my emergency information is incorrect?
If emergency contact information displayed on your HR direct Emergency Contact screen is incorrect, you may change it yourself online. Click here to access instructions on how to change you Emergency Contact Information.

3. What if my payroll information is incorrect?
If payroll information contained on your HR Direct payroll information screen is incorrect, contact Payroll at PayrollUMassChan@umassmed.edu

4. Can others view my personal or check information?
Your user name and password are unique to you and no one else. As long as you maintain good computer security and are careful not to share or accidently disclose your user name and/or password information not anyone but you will be able to access your account. If you are using a public computer or kiosk, be particularly careful about security and make sure you close the browser after you have completed your visit to the HR Direct site.

5. How do I find out more about changing and accessing personal information and tax documents?

a.) How do I change my personal data, tax information, direct deposit data and other employee information?
As a UMass Chan employee, you have access to HR Direct from your computer. We strongly encourage you to keep your personal employee information up to date in order to receive the appropriate information and correspondence from UMass Chan. 

Employees may update their direct deposit data, W-4, M-4 and/or other tax information, personal data (address, email address, phone, emergency contact, marital status) and other employee information using the HR Direct application. Access HR Direct and go to the “Employee Self Service” left navigation menu item to review and make any needed personal employee information updates.

b.) How can I get a copy of a W-2 from past years?
W-2s from years past can be accessed from UMass Chan's HR Direct, from your computer. Access HR Direct and go to the “Employee Self Service” left navigation menu. Select “View W-2/W-2c Forms” to get a copy or a W-2 from past years.

c.) Who do I contact if I have a question about my W-2?
The Payroll Office can assist you with questions regarding your W-2. You can reach them by calling (508) 856-5260, Option 4, or by e-mailing PayrollUMassChan@umassmed.edu. 

d.) How can I receive a copy of my personnel file?
Send a request via email to the HR Data Group at HR-DataGroup@umassmed.edu to request a copy of your personnel file.

III. System Functionality Questions

1. How do I know my online changes to emergency contact took place? Do I get a confirmation?
Yes, once you have added, deleted or edited emergency contact information you will receive a message that indicates your action was successful.

2. Why are pages not loading properly?
Users may receive a “Processing” message when trying to access a page in HR Direct. Users are asked to clear their browser history if encountering this issue. See Clearing Browser History page for detailed instructions.

3. Why did a Conflict of Interest page appear when I logged in?
Users may receive the Conflict of Interest message when first logging into the system. This page will say “Attention All Employees” in bright red at the top of the page.  Users can click the OK link to access the Conflict of Interest page.  The user should read through the Conflict of Interest Law and then confirm he or she has done so.  The user will not be prompted again with the Conflict of Interest message for another year once he or she has completed these steps. 4. Why is my Pay Advice not opening?
If a user’s pay advice is not opening, you should first confirm the user’s pop-up blocker settings is set to off by clicking on "Tools", "Popup Blocker".  If user continues to have an issue, call the Information Services help desk at 508-856-8643.

5. What browsers are supported (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox)?
The below browsers are supported by HR Direct. Use of an unsupported browser version may cause potential access or usability issues.
