Retirement Plans

As a UMass Chan employee, you are required to participate in one of the mandatory retirement options – the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), if eligible. Contributions to these plans are in lieu of Social Security.

You also have the option of two voluntary retirement plans – the University 403(b) Plan and the 457(b) Plan/MA SMART Plan.
