Congratulations to Dr. John Haley for a Successful Defense
Date Posted: Tuesday, April 16, 2024Congratulations to newly minted PhD, John Haley. He joined the Guertin lab in September of 2018 after completing his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Stony Brook University. His research focused on understanding the mechanisms of metabolic signaling in health and disease.
In 2019, Haley received the Craig Mello Scholar Award, which the Program in Molecular Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School awards to graduate students in the department who demonstrate “outstanding track records and bright futures.”
In 2022, he was awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award from the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. That fellowship funded his study on the impact of signaling and metabolic pathways on a nutrient-sensing complex in the liver.
Haley was named the 2023 Emerging Scientist in Metabolism by Weill Cornell Medicine. He was awarded that top prize in a national competition for senior graduate students conducting metabolism research.
Dr. Haley will be joining the new Metabolomics Core Facility being launched in the Program in Molecular Medicine at UMass Chan Medical School.
