Mentoring in the Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP)

The Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences recognizes that access to, and interaction with, mentors is critical for success during graduate study. To maximize the success of program participants, a multi-faceted mentoring approach has been built into the PREP. All PREP students are paired with multiple mentors, with the specific mentoring aspects dependent on the pathway selected by the students. 

In addition to being guided by their research mentors, students in the Basic Biomedical Sciences pathway are assigned faculty and PhD student mentors who meet with program participants on a regular basis, track their academic and research progress, and provide guidance regarding the transition to graduate study. 

Students selecting the Population Health Sciences pathway are assigned a primary research mentor with whom they conduct their year-long research placement, and an additional PREP faculty and peer mentor, who closely track their progress in the classroom and in their research. Mentors meet with program participants on a regular basis, and are available for additional consultation as needed.
