Patient Safety & Quality Improvement
Graduate Medical Education at UMass Chan Medical School coordinates education in quality improvement (QI) and patient safety for residents and fellows in its programs. This training satisfies ACGME expectations within the Clinical Learning Environment program.
QI training includes general concepts and information about the clinical site’s QI priorities. Residents participate in mentored quality improvement projects and receive specialty-specific data on quality metrics.
UMass Chan GME also sponsors the Interprofessional Trainee Quality Council (ITQC), which provides opportunity for residents and fellows to design and lead QI projects over the course of an academic year and receive a certificate of proficiency.
Patient safety training includes information on the clinical site’s priorities as well as identification and reporting of events, investigation, countermeasures, and disclosure.
