UMass/Amherst Worcester Campus MPH Program at the UMass Chan Medical School offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health. The MPH degree is granted by the School of Public Health and Health Sciences at UMass/ Amherst. The Worcester Campus MPH Program Director and Administrator are faculty and staff, respectively, in the UMassChan Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. They both work closely with our Worcester Campus MPH students to provide administrative support and curricular advising/mentoring. All required and elective courses are offered online. The MPH practicum experience and capstone project are completed in coordination with the Worcester Campus Program Director who serves as faculty advisor for all Worcester Campus students.
The curriculum for the MPH Program is designed to enable health care professionals to earn this advanced degree while engaged in professional activities since all classes are offered online in conjunction with the UMass/Amherst Public Health Practice Program. The core courses and elective courses cover a wide variety of topics in public health, including: health policy and management, epidemiology and biostatistics, program planning and evaluation, leadership and advocacy, health equity and social justice, research methods, environmental health, and global health. There is an option to obtain a certificate in global health, along with the MPH degree. With permission of the Worcester Campus MPH program director, students may take elective courses that are offered across the UMass/Amherst Campus in other UMA Schools.
The requirements for the degree include a total of 42 credits with 36 credits devoted to required and elective courses, along with the practicum experience and capstone project for 3 credits each. Worcester Campus MPH students have the option of working with the program director to complete a 3-credit independent study project to take the place of an elective course.
