Curriculum

The core curriculum consists of the entire educational experience, including learning from inpatient consults, discussions in the clinic, lectures and conferences. Division-wide conferences are held on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings, with attendance and participation expected of all fellows and GI faculty. Throughout the year, GI faculty and invited guests will give lectures on various topics focused on fellow education; other learners and clinicians, including students, residents, advanced practitioners, clinic nurses, non-GI faculty and community doctors may be invited to attend. Each fellow will be responsible for giving presentations throughout the year as well. Every conference has guidelines and requirements to help focus the presentation. Fellows must review every aspect of the presentation with their mentor, including topic selection, slides and discussion points. Fellow-led conferences include Journal Club Conferences (JCs), Clinicopathology Conferences (CPCs) and Morbidity and Mortality Meetings (M&Ms). Third-year fellows also give Senior Grand Rounds prior to graduation, based on a clinical and/or academic interest. Other conference responsibilities may include research presentations or presenting cases at faculty-led meetings (e.g., IBD Case Meetings).
