Dr. Susan Hogan, MD, MPH

Dr. Hogan is board certified in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine.   Her interest in preventive medicine stemmed from a desire to help promote the health of patients and communities.  In her clinical practice and teaching, she strives to understand how physicians and community organizations can work together to promote health and well being.  She is actively involved in medical student and residency education and loves to help others consider the intersection of health, healthcare and public health.  As a clinician, she provides whole person care for individuals and families. 

     
   

Dr. Heather Alker, MD, MPH

Heather Alker MD MPH is board certified in both Obstetrics & Gynecology and Preventive Medicine. She works at UMass Medical School as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health in the Preventive Medicine division. She is a member of the Healthy Baby Collaborative working on reducing infant mortality in Worcester. She is past Chair of the Occupational and Environmental Health Committee at Massachusetts Medical Society where she led policy work recognizing the health impacts of climate change.  She currently works as a contractor with Teladoc Health, as a TIMAP (Trans Intersex Medical Advocacy Program) Physician, and as an Expert Medical Services Physician.

 
     
   

Dr. Mukti Kulkarni, MD, MPH

Dr. Kulkarni is board certified in family medicine and public health and general preventive medicine. She teaches in the preventive medicine residency on a variety of topics including clinical preventive services, environmental health, epidemiology and health policy, adverse childhood experiences and intergenerational trauma. She is also the data analyst for the Worcester Healthy Baby Collaborative, reviewing infant and fetal mortality for the City of Worcester. Clinically, she enjoys working in adolescent correctional health as a medical director with the MA Department of Youth Services and providing primary care to all ages at Hahnemann Family Health Center at UMass.

     
       

Dr. Daria Szwarko, DO, MPH

Dr. Daria Szkwarko, DO, MPH serves as the research advisor for the Preventive Medicine Program and an Adjunct Associate Professor at UMass Chan. Her research interests are in implementing and evaluating educational innovations that help democratize knowledge and improve healthcare access for vulnerable populations globally. Her research started in TB prevention globally. Initially studying child TB contact management in Kenya, she is particularly interested in identifying and studying strategies that can improve the various steps throughout the TB infection care cascade globally. Domestically, she is interested in improving latent TB infection testing and treatment in primary care. She is the co-course director for the Regional and Advanced Massachusetts TB infection ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) programs.

Dr. Szkwarko co-leads the largest multiple use case point of care ultrasound (POCUS) project in the world which launched in August 2024. Funded through the Gates Foundation, Dr. Szkwarko and Dr. Hussein Elias (Moi University Family Medicine faculty) are aiming to train more than 4000 healthcare workers across western Kenya in POCUS.  At her primary institution, the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, she is a course director in the Primary Care and Population Medicine program. Clinically, she is a hospitalist at Kent Hospital in Rhode island and does urgent care and latent TB infection management at Blackstone Valley Community Health Center.

     
   

Dr. Lauren Jansen, MD, MPH

Dr. Lauren Jansen is board-certified in family medicine and public health and general preventive medicine. She served as a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer assigned to Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services in Lincoln, Nebraska during 2021–2023. In this role, she investigated outbreaks of disease including campylobacteriosis, avian influenza, mpox, salmonellosis, and more. Dr. Jansen’s interests include applied epidemiology, emerging infectious diseases, communications, and medical education.

     
 

Dr. Hannah Stoops, MD, MPH

Hannah Stoops is currently practicing general family medicine, with interest in preventive medicine, adolescent medicine, and women's health. She has completed research and academic work in pediatric depression/care cascades and review of obesity management and care coverage, work in diversity equity and inclusion, and as part of the Family Medicine Clerkship clinical rotation.
