Mindfulness and Wellness
Wellness and resiliency are central to palliative care training and lifelong practice. Our fellows meet for confidential, one-on-one, longitudinal virtual sessions with health psychologist Tina Runyan, PhD, a nationally recognized expert in the unique stresses of healthcare workers. Our lead social worker, Nancy McCool LICSW, mentors our fellows in resiliency skills and offers at-the-elbow support on clinical rotations. Our team has a gratitude practice at our weekly division meeting, and we incorporate mindfulness exercises and narrative medicine in many sessions.
UMass Memorial Medical Center also offers monthly Schwartz Rounds and access to free or low-cost Mindfulness Meditation courses through the UMass Center for Mindfulness.
Fellows meet with Tina Runyan, PhD for support throughout the fellowship year. Read more about Dr. Runyan, and her work here, including her On Being with Krista Tippett podcast interview.
