Medical Student Programs


In addition to sub-internships, a variety of exciting one month inpatient and ambulatory electives are offered. Examples include a medical writing elective and several opportunities to care for marginalized patients including via the Indian Health Service, International Health, the Department of Public Health, rural communities, care for unhoused patients, college health, and both inpatient and ambulatory correctional health.

An elective is defined as:  A structured learning experience in a field of medicine or the biomedical sciences approved by the faculty of the UMass Chan Medical School, which is not required as part of the basic medical school curriculum. We have type A, B, and C electives; please see characteristics of each type of elective here.
