What is the Academic Health Collaborative – Worcester (AHCW)?
The Academic Health Collaborative of Worcester (AHCW) aims to build a consortium that will apply the resources and expertise of local faculty, students and researchers to help address community health priorities identified by WDPH. These public health priorities for Worcester and six surrounding communities are outlined in the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
What is the interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS) at UMass Chan?
The UMass Chan interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS) -- opened in 2013, iCELS is a state-of-the-art learning, quality improvement and innovation hub with the vision of promoting ‘Better Outcomes Through Simulation.’ Over the last two years, iCELS has increased community engagement through collaboration with Community Investigators and opened its doors to high school and college interns in order to improve program authenticity by engaging diverse voices and provide professional development opportunities for members of the Worcester community.
How are teams formed?
Teams structure will meet the following guidelines:
- Teams can include up to 5 members.
- Team members will participate on both days.
- Team members will be from >1 school.
- Team members will be from >1 discipline/major field of study.
Additional information regarding team structure will be updated on this website prior to the hackathon. All teams will receive similar resources, access to the same consultants and outcomes will be evaluated using a consistent rubric.
What support will teams have to do their work?
Teams will be provided with simulation workshops, on-site planning resources, and consultation from local community advocates and professionals to support proposal development. In addition, each team will have basic writing and design materials (paper, pens, sticky notes, etc), access to Wifi and one device (iPad or computer).
Are there awards for best project ideas?
Top prizes are:
- Remillard Prize ($750 per team)
- Abbvie and Tufts Health Plan prizes ($500 each per team)
- People’s choice award ($250 per team)
Top feasible project(s) will get seed money for implementation with the Worcester Division of Public Health.
Everyone gets WooHealth Hack swag, a certificate and the opportunity to participate in an innovative public health event that can help change the landscape of care for Worcester, share your passion and engage with students, faculty and community leaders from across Worcester.
