Dr. Xiaoduo Fan is board-certified psychiatrist and a professor of psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School. He is director of the UMass MIND Clinical and Research Program. Prior to joining UMass, Dr. Fan was a staff psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School for many years.
Dr. Fan's clinical work and research focus on innovative pharmacological and psychosocial interventions for refractory symptoms of schizophrenia, medical co-morbidities, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Dr. Fan has received research funding from government agencies, private foundations, and industry. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers in major academic journals.
Dr. Fan has served on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research. He has also served as a reviewer for various grant programs of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA). In recognition of his significant contribution towards understanding the impact and importance of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry, Dr. Fan received the Kun-Po Soo Award from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in 2020. Currently, Dr. Fan is a member of the APA Scientific Program Committee, a member of the APA Council on International Psychiatry and Global Health, and a Distinguished Fellow of the APA.
Dr. Fan received his medical degree from Peking University in Beijing and completed psychiatry residency training at the State University of New York. In addition, Dr. Fan earned a master's degree in clinical psychology from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and a master's degree in public health from Harvard University.

Dr. Amy Harrington is a clinician and a researcher specializing in the treatment of patients who have both schizophrenia and co-occurring addictive disorders. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School.
Dr. Harrington’s research interests are in both the pharmacologic treatment as well as systems-based treatment for patients with co-occurring disorders. Some of her current projects include clinical trials investigating pharmacologic interventions for alcohol use and cannabis use in patients with schizophrenia.
Dr. Harrington completed her undergraduate training at Swarthmore College and her medical training at Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency training at Georgetown University, where she served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry for the DC Veterans Affairs Hospital. She completed her Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Boston University before joining the faculty at UMass Chan in 2010.

Dr. Young is board certified in both Psychiatry and Neurology and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at UMass Chan Medical School. His clinical interests include psychotic disorders, cognitive disorders, and neuropsychiatry. He is an in-patient attending Psychiatrist at the Psychiatric Treatment and Recovery Center and an attending Neuropsychiatrist in the Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology Clinic.
Dr. Young has a background in large-scale genomics research, bioinformatics, and network analysis. His current research interests include heterogeneity in schizophrenia, imaging biomarkers, the interplay of cognitive function and psychopathology, cognitive rehabilitation, and neurostimulation.
Dr. Young completed medical training and subsequently combined training in neurology and psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School.

Ursula Makrum, PMH CNS – BC |
Ursula Makrum, PMH CNS – BC is Board Certified in Advanced Practice with focus on Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She completed a bachelor's in Nursing at Fitchburg State College and a master's in Nursing at Northeastern University. She is currently employed at Community Health Link in the Outpatient Department.
Ursula's research interests include alleviating distressing symptoms of psychosis with pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.

Amy Cheung, MD/PhD Candidate, Co-Leader Community Intervention Program |
Amy is a fifth year MD/PhD student at UMass. She graduated from Stony Brook University in 2014 and received a bachelor’s degree in Biology (Neuroscience specialization). She is interested in community outreach efforts to embrace a more holistic approach to patient care and reduce mental health stigma. Amy is currently serving as one of the program leaders for the UMass MIND Community Intervention Program, and a co-leader for the Healthy Living Module.

Marko Stojcevski, MD Candidate |
Marko Stojcevski is a third-year medical student at UMass. He was born and raised in Serbia. He graduated from UCLA in 2019, majoring in molecular biology and genetics. He is primarily interested in using evidence-based psychosocial interventions within the mental health realm of patient care. In the past, Marko helped lead the Psychiatry interest group at UMass Chan Medical School. Currently, he is one of the program leaders for the UMass MIND Community Intervention Program.

Abaigeal Grant, BA, UMass Mind Coordinator |
Abaigeal received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wellesley College in 2018, and is a member of Psi Chi, the international honors society in psychology. While at Wellesley, she was a member of the Wellesley College Choir and Wellesley’s Active Minds, and is interested in how music and the arts can help people with serious mental illness. Abaigeal currently serves as the Coordinator for the UMass Mind Clinical and Research Program.

Darrell A. Workman, BS, UMass Mind Clinical Research Assistant |
Darrell A. Workman graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics from UMass Amherst in 2018 and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern New Hampshire University in 2024. He is currently interested in working with individuals with mental illness and developing clinical experience and skills. Darrell currently serves as a Clinical Research Assistant for the UMass MIND Clinical and Research Program. He aspires to pursue a graduate degree in psychology in the future.

Brenna Chuang, Clinical Research Intern |
Brenna Chuang has been a clinical research intern with the UMass MIND program since December of 2021. She currently attends Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science and is pursuing a degree in Premedical Health Studies with a focus in Osteopathic Medicine and a minor in Health Psychology. At her university, Brenna serves as both a peer tutor and peer assistant leader in biology. Brenna is involved in various projects in the UMass MIND's Community Intervention Program. She is interested in learning about the more holistic aspects of medicine and aspires to eventually attend medical school.
