Data Domains and Attributes
The table below describes the data domains available for your research:

Demographics | Basic patient information including date of birth, sex, race, ethnicity, recent height, weight |
Encounters | Both inpatient and outpatient encounters, admission/discharge, location of care, department, clinic name, providers |
Diagnoses | Billing and clinical codes. |
Procedures | Billing and clinical codes including information pertaining to procedure orders. |
Medications (Prescription/MAR) | Drug orders and Medication Administration Records (MAR) for both in-and out-patients. |
Laboratory Tests | Results, both numeric and categorical / text, from diagnostic tests run on biospecimens. |
Imaging | Radiology reports (image files are not available). |
Notes | Clinical documents such as consultation notes, operative/procedures notes, etc. |
Assessments and Observations | Nursing Documentation, Flowsheets records, including point of care assessment results and vital sign readings, for both inpatient and outpatient. |
Biospecimen Related Data | Specimens from UMCCTS Biospecimen, Tissue, and Tumor Bank (Biorepository) and related data from the Electronic Health Record System. |
Geospatial Data | Geospatial data related to spatial disease clusters and information on social determinants of health. (Examples: access to healthy food/water/air, language barrier, economic barriers) Social demographics: data from census including income, education, etc. Environmental data: water, air, food access, public park access, etc. |
Other | Allergies, Family / Social History |
Additionally, when research study data is not available in the Data Lake but rather in ancillary clinical systems, the Research Informatics Core (RIC) collaborates with UMass Memorial Hospital and the Medical School Information Technology teams to gain access to the additional data.
All clinical data used in research studies must be approved and provided by the Research Informatics Core. In very specific cases, exceptions can be granted to use or extract data from other data repositories outside the scope of the data lake.
