UMass Chan requirements and how do I apply to the UMass Chan Medical School Radiology Residency Program?
Applicants should review UMass Chan GME eligibility requirements found on the Graduate Medical Education website - https://www.umassmed.edu/gme/future-residentsfellows/eligibile/.
All applicants must apply through ERAS submitting an individual ERAS application for each UMass Chan Radiology Residency Program. We welcome you to apply to all programs of interest.
What is application deadline?
- We begin screening applications when ERAS opens to programs in October
- Applicants are requested to refrain from contacting us (either by phone or email) to ask or check on the status of your application.
- We anticipate sending out our virtual interview invitations in late October/early November. Waitlisted applicants will also be notified.
Do you offer an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) Pathway?
Yes, we were approved for the ESIR pathway.
What is the USMLE cutoff score?
There is no USMLE cutoff score. We employ a holistic applicant review where the USMLE scores are just a part of the application taken into context with the rest of the application content.
How many letters of recommendation do you require?
We require three letters of recommendation.
Do you require clinical experience prior to radiology residency at UMass Chan?
It is required that one ACGME-accredited clinical training year is completed prior to starting residency with us. Most of our residents complete internships in medicine, surgery, or transitional year programs.
Do you offer a transitional year as part of your program?
No, we do not.
Do you have a cutoff year of medical school graduation?
No, we do not have a cutoff year.
Do you accept international medical graduates into your program?
Yes, if screening criteria is met.
Does your program sponsor any Visas?
We support J1 visas.
How many applicants do you interview?
We interview approximately 86 applicants.
How long is the interview day?
We hold morning and afternoon sessions on each of the interview days. Each session is about five hours long. Specifics of the interview day will be determined once a candidate has selected an interview session. This year the interview days will be done via Zoom, due to COVID-19, but the format of the day will remain the same.
Will there be an interview dinner?
Due to COVID-19, in lieu of our usual pre/post-interview dinner with the residents we will be having a pre or post-interview virtual resident/applicant get together. Details will be determined once a candidate has selected an interview session.
