Our current plan is to staff Marlborough Hospital each day with an Abdominal Imaging / Image guided procedure Radiologist as well as a member of our MSK Radiology group. Southborough Medical will be staffed by a member of our Breast Imaging Division each day, and Clinton Hospital will be staffed Monday, Wednesday and Friday to provide General Radiology and Image guided procedure services, as well as mammography and breast ultrasound services.
Over the next few months, under the leadership of Dr. Darren Brennan, our new Vice-chair for Community Radiology we will be working with the staff at Marlborough, Clinton and Southborough to identify opportunities to increase the scope of Radiology services provided in the community and streamline our workflow. All of these efforts will be working towards the goal of having a unified, comprehensive, integrated Radiology department across the UMass network. This will ensure that any UMass patient can have their imaging performed at the most convenient site which is appropriate for the complexity of their condition.
Some of the specific projects that we are working on include the development of a smart-phone “Radiology app” which will provide contact information, answers to frequently asked questions, schedules, and policies/procedures for providers both within and outside of UMass Memorial. Dave Smith and his IT team have started to work on connecting Marlborough Orthopedic Associates (one of the major referral groups to Marlborough Hospital) with our PACS system via lifeImage.
I’d like to thank Dr. Ron Garrell and Dr. Brian Brochu for their support, as these community sites transitioned from Marlborough Radiology Associates (their Radiology practice group) to UMass. I am especially happy to be able to welcome Ron and Brian as the newest members of our UMass Radiology Department and faculty. Ron has joined the ED Radiology division and Brian has joined the MSK Radiology division.
Hope everyone has survived the past 6 weeks of snow without too much disruption. I’m sure we are all looking forward to spring.
Best,
Max
