Office of Faculty Affairs and UMass Chan Medical School senior leadership at the May 21st graduation ceremony.
This past May, eighteen junior faculty members graduated from the year-long Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP). Adib Karam, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology, was among this year’s group. The JFDP was developed by Robert Milner, PhD, Associate Vice-Provost for Professional Development and Professor of Neurology, and Luanne Thorndyke, MD, Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Medicine. The program is modeled after one that was developed at Penn State Medical School and is designed to promote success in academic medicine. Over the past five years, 110 junior faculty members have participated in the UMass JFDP. It is now the paradigm for faculty development programs nationally.
Dr. Karam says, "Graduating from the well-crafted Junior Faculty Development Program was a great experience and opportunity for my personal development.” He would like to take the opportunity to thank his Mentor, Dr. Dominic Nompleggi and the JFDP Co-Directors Robert J. Milner, PhD and Joanna Cain, MD for their great efforts and support.
Hartley Sirkis, MD, Assistant Professor of Radiology, graduated from the program last year and was the first from radiology to do so.
