Virtual Annual Meeting, August 4-7, 2020
The Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) hosted their annual meeting virtually this year. Radiology Professor and Director of the New England Stroke Research Center, Matthew Gounis, PhD reported that UMMS is well represented at the meeting. Dr. De Macedo Rodrigues moderated a session, Dr. Gounis gave an invited lecture and was a moderator, their lab had 2 podium presentations and 2 posters and Dr. De Macedo Rodrigues and Dr. Puri were both pictured on the cover of the program.

Dr. Matt Gounis was on the Program Committee for the meeting. Below is an excerpt from an e-mail he sent to Society Members before the meeting:
I hope you have been staying safe and finding a bit of time to relax or even learn new things amidst this unprecedented pandemic. As you know, our 17th Annual Meeting (August 4–7) has gone fully virtual!
I’m really looking forward to seeing SNIS members rise to the challenge of a virtual experience. I know that the organizers have made this a meeting not to miss, featuring a combination of live and taped sessions with the same high-quality content you expect from the SNIS Annual Meeting. As we have for nearly two decades now, we have assembled a diverse collection of thought-provoking sessions, visionary abstracts, and a variety of discussion forums positioned to challenge our status quo. It’s a great time to be in our field, and I look forward to learning from you and many others how I can improve my knowledge and practice.
The preliminary program is available for viewing on our website, but here are a few things I’m excited about this year:
- We have new partners in scientific programming this year: the AANS/CNS Joint Cerebrovascular Section, the European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT), the Australian & New Zealand Society of Neuroradiology (ANZSNR) and the Society of Vascular & Interventional Neurology (SVIN). These active members of the program committee are bringing a wealth of ideas and energy to the meeting. We are also thankful to our colleagues at the Society of Vascular & Interventional Neurology (SVIN) for contributing a session to our on-demand programming.
- We also will spotlight the annual Luminary Lecture this year provided by Van Halbach, MD, FSNIS. Once again, we will spotlight a patient with the Amy Walters Lecture, this year given by Todd Aho, MD. This endowed lectureship allows us to hear from one patient at the SNIS Annual Meeting & the ESMINT Annual Meeting each year for inspiration, and to remind us why we practice medicine to begin with.
- As always, we will create multiple opportunities for you to share your perspective with both the leadership and membership of our society. And we hope that although we will be apart, you will continue to experience the foundational connections that advance the relationships, science, and innovation so critical to the success of our field and the patients who rely on neurointerventional surgery.
