Matthew Gounis Plenary Lecturer at WFITN
Matthew Gounis, PhD, Professor of Radiology and Director of the New England Center for Stroke Research, presented the Pierre Lasjuanias Memorial lecture at the 15th Congress of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) held in Naples, Italy, October 21-24. The meeting is held every 2 years, and brings together neurointerventional surgeons from around the world. The plenary lecture of the congress is named after late founder of WFITN, Professor Pierre Lasjuanias, who prematurely passed away in 2008. The lecture has been presented at WFITN ever since the 2009 congress. Professor Lasjuanias was a world-renowned interventional neuroradiologist and regarded expert in neurovascular anatomy and embryology. Dr. Gounis presented on a new technology being developed by a local start-up company and characterized at UMASS under the leadership of Dr. Ajit Puri that enables high-resolution imaging of the cerebral arteries for diagnosis of cerebrovascular pathology and guidance of intervention. The talk was titled "High-resolution Intravascular Imaging in Neurointervention."
