ACR International Outreach Subcommittee
Dr. Joelle Wazen, 4th year Radiology Resident, has been appointed to the American College of Radiology (ACR) International Outreach Subcommittee. The Subcommittee helps organize/centralize knowledge about international outreach opportunities and involvement to facilitate better international aid work and collaboration. Example projects include Global Health Imaging Curriculum in Radiology Residency Programs: The Fundamentals. The subcommittee meets during national radiology meetings such as ACR, RSNA and AUR.
Dr. Wazen explains how she became involved, "It all started when I attended ACR RFS Chapter last year in May (Thank you for the opportunity!!!) by the end of the meeting we elected all ACR RFS subcommittee boards. Each candidate briefly explained how they started by applying for membership and then progressively climbed the ladder.
I received an email from ACR a few weeks later asking if I was interested in joining any of the subcommittees. I selected International Outreach, Healthcare economics/policies and IR subcommittees. There was an opening in the international outreach committee so I was contacted. The subcommittee Chair asked me to answer a few questions including the reason behind my interest -I'm an international graduate, any prior outreach experience – which I also had. Fresh out of medical school I organized a humanitarian medical mission to Chad in Africa where I led a small medical team at 2 outpatient clinics. I guess they thought I can contribute and next thing I know, we are planning a conference call for our first meeting!"
Congratulations Dr. Wazen!
