New Faculty
Maria Barile, MD, has joined the Division of Cardiovascular Thoracic Imaging. She previously was at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where she was Fellowship Program Director for Thoracic Imaging. Dr. Barile earned a BS in Neuroscience from Bates College and her MD from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She did residency training at Rhode Island Hospital/Brown University in Providence, RI and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA. She also has completed two Clinical Fellowships; Pediatric Radiology at Children's Hospital, Boston and Thoracic Radiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Sami Erbay, MD, has joined the department as an Associate Professor in the Division of Neuroradiology moving from his previous position at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. Dr. Erbay was attracted to the UMass Chan because it is a distinguished academic institution, and has an active and highly achieved Radiology Department and Neuroradiology division. He has a long standing attachment to the scientific and education community in Massachusetts along with a family presence here. Dr. Erbay started his medical school training in 1982. His decision to become a doctor was influenced by a desire to always be there to extend helping and healing hands. He enjoys continuously learning and educating and is interested in expanding and delivering improvements in health care through innovations, research and public education. His clinical interests include stroke, trigeminal neuralgia, white matter diseases and CSF flow dynamics. A lifelong educator/learner, he was Program Director for Tufts Medical Center Radiology Residency and Board Examiner, American Board of Radiology, since 2001. Dr. Erbay's personal interests include reading, research and running. He is married to Nazli Erbay, MD, who works in the Department of Radiology at Cambridge Health Alliance. |

Elisabeth Garwood, MD recently joined the division of Musculoskeletal Radiology. Dr. Garwood previously was an assistant professor at New York University where she specialized in ultrasound guided MSK procedures. She was involved in a an effort to decrease MRI scan time using machine learning based MR image reconstruction methods. She initiated a project in collaboration with NYU public health researchers to calculate the carbon footprint of routine MRI studies. Dr. Garwood is a "local" and is excited about returning to central Mass where her family has lived for five generations in West Brookfield, MA. She did her undergrad work at Worcester State and UMass Amherst and Medical School at Penn State and her Radiology Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. At New York University she completed a Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology. Living in different cities; Washington DC, San Francisco, and New York, gave me a broader perspective and enabled me to truly appreciate central Massachusetts and instilled in me a desire to return and serve the community I grew up in. Dr. Garwood's clinical interests include diagnostic MSK ultrasound, MR imaging of arthroplasty complications, MR imaging of peripheral nerves. "I love all animals and most of my hobbies involve animal husbandry and/or agriculture. Currently, I’m spending most of my free time riding horses. When the weather is better, I help my family make hard cider for their cider company, Ragged Hill. I live in Worcester with my husband and two Abyssinian cats. Most of my family still lives in West Brookfield, it is great to be close to them again" says Dr. Garwood. |

Jasmeet Singh, MBBS, MD, DM has joined the division of Interventional Neuroradiology. Dr. Singh moved to UMass Chan from the Department of Radiology at Wake Forest University Hospital. His clinical specialties are stroke revascularizations, treating ENT/caraniofacial vascular emergencies, ruptured aneurysms and Dural and brain arteriovenous malformations. Dr. Singh completed fellowships at Wake Forest University in Interventional Neuroradiology and Endovascular neurosurgery, Neurology and Pediatric Radiology. Previous to that was a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at Yale, as well as a Fellowship in Neuroradiology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India. |
