International Day of Radiology
Commanding the Front Lines of Patient Care
Maybe you know someone—your father, sister, loved one, friend or colleague—who has headed to the emergency room after a serious injury.
And they have been treated by a clinically skilled emergency radiologist.
Emergency radiologists are on the front lines of patient care 24/7/365. They are vital in the timely diagnosis and management of emergency patients from head to toe.
Because emergencies can happen day or night, emergency radiologists are always on hand in the ER, ready and able to perform high-tech imaging procedures and interpret their results quickly and accurately. They use CT, MRI, ultrasound and X-ray scans to diagnose sudden-onset illnesses and injuries, such as appendicitis, stroke and more, in adults and children.
Emergency radiologists
- Deliver front-line value-based imaging for all patients in the emergency room
- Contribute to the care of critically ill and injured patients
- Serve as consultants and provide valuable feedback on imaging options for quality patient care The lives of thousands have been saved by the many contributions of emergency radiologists.
On Nov. 8, we celebrate the International Day of Radiology (IDoR 2017), highlighting the advances made in emergency radiology and the essential role that radiology plays in the detection, diagnosis and management of diseases, injuries and traumas. On this date 121 years ago, German physicist Wilhelm Röentgen discovered the X-ray, a discovery that revolutionized medicine — and continues to save countless lives.
Let’s salute our local health care teams (radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, nurses, technologists and administrators).
While we set aside one day to call attention to radiology advances, it’s important to note that radiology makes a world of difference every day.
