Dr. Xiaoduo Fan is board-certified psychiatrist and a professor of psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School. He is director of the UMass MIND Clinical and Research Program. Prior to joining UMass, Dr. Fan was a staff psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School for many years.
Dr. Fan's clinical work and research focus on innovative pharmacological and psychosocial interventions for refractory symptoms of schizophrenia, medical co-morbidities, co-occurring substance use disorders, and real-life functioning in patients with serious mental illnesses. Dr. Fan has received research funding from government agencies, private foundations, and industry. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers in major academic journals.
Dr. Fan has served on the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Advisory Panel on Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research. He has also served as a reviewer for various grant programs of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA). In recognition of his significant contribution towards understanding the impact and importance of Asian cultural heritage in areas relevant to psychiatry, Dr. Fan received the Kun-Po Soo Award from the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in 2020. Currently, Dr. Fan is a member of the APA Scientific Program Committee, a member of the APA Council on International Psychiatry and Global Health, and a Distinguished Fellow of the APA.
Dr. Fan received his medical degree from Peking University in Beijing and completed psychiatry residency training at the State University of New York. In addition, Dr. Fan earned a master's degree in clinical psychology from the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and a master's degree in public health from Harvard University.

Dr. Amy Harrington is a clinician and a researcher specializing in the treatment of patients who have both schizophrenia and co-occurring addictive disorders. She is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UMass Chan Medical School.
Dr. Harrington’s research interests are in both the pharmacologic treatment as well as systems-based treatment for patients with co-occurring disorders. Some of her current projects include clinical trials investigating pharmacologic interventions for alcohol use and cannabis use in patients with schizophrenia.
Dr. Harrington completed her undergraduate training at Swarthmore College and her medical training at Drexel University College of Medicine. She completed her psychiatry residency training at Georgetown University, where she served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry for the DC Veterans Affairs Hospital. She completed her Addiction Psychiatry fellowship at Boston University before joining the faculty at UMass Chan in 2010.

Dr. Abita Raj is a dual Board-certified psychiatrist (Adult and Child and Adolescent), and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the UMass Chan Medical School. She is the Medical Director for the Child Division at Community Health Link. She is also the Medical Director of the BRIDGE Counseling Center at Open Sky.
Dr. Raj's research focuses on developing innovative system-based interventions to support real life functioning for individuals with schizophrenia, trauma, and co-occurring substance use disorders.
Dr. Raj received her medical degree from ROSS University School of Medicine, NJ. She completed Psychiatry residency training and her Child and Adolescent fellowship training at UMass.

Dr. Shukair received his MD from Damascus University, Syria in 1999 and completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency training in Damascus University in 2003. Dr. Shukair completed General Psychiatry Training Program (research Track) in University of Texas Southwestern in 2007, with psychoanalytic training in the Dallas Institute for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Shukair completed a Child and Adolescents Psychiatry training in Children’s Hospital of Boston, Harvard Medical School in 2009. Dr. Shukair is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry And Pediatrics at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester. Dr. Shukair‘s current research interests focus on the interaction between executive function deficits and psychopathology, with special interest in the role of trauma.

Dr. Anthony Giuliano is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the neuropsychology of psychotic and related disorders and evidence-based treatments for adolescents and adults with psychosis and their families. He has worked as a clinical psychologist at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) since April 2013.
Dr. Giuliano's primary clinical research interests are in the neuropsychology of serious mental illness, and in the enhancement of cognition through psychosocial treatments to improve the social and role functioning of people with psychosis.
Dr. Giuliano completed his BA in psychology and philosophy at Boston College, his PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Rhode Island, and postdoctoral fellowships in adult and child/adolescent neuropsychology at the University of Virginia and Harvard Medical Schools.

Ursula Makrum, PMH CNS – BC |
Ursula Makrum, PMH CNS – BC is Board Certified in Advanced Practice with focus on Adult Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She completed a Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Fitchburg State College and a Masters in Nursing at Northeastern University. She is currently employed at Community Health Link in the Outpatient Department.
Ursula Makrum has recently joined the Psychotic Disorders Research Program as Co-Investigator at UMass Chan Medical School. Her research interests include alleviating distressing symptoms of psychosis with pharmacological and psychosocial interventions.

Amy Cheung, MD/PhD, Co-Leader Community Intervention Program |
Amy is a fifth year MD/PhD student at UMass. She graduated from Stony Brook University in 2014 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Neuroscience specialization). She is interested in community outreach efforts to embrace a more holistic approach to patient care and reduce mental health stigma. Amy is currently serving as one of the program leaders for the UMass MIND Community Intervention Program, and a co-leader for the Healthy Living Module.

Kenny Leng, MA, Clinical Research Coordinator I |
Kenny Leng received his Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2014. At John Jay College, Kenny studied psychology focusing on law and justice, neuropsychology, psychopathology, and psychological assessment. Kenny is interested in psychosocial interventions for mental disorders; he is also interested in raising awareness of mental illness in Asian/Chinese populations. Kenny is multilingual (English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay) and recently completed the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Worcester State University. He currently serves as the Clinical Research Coordinator for the Psychotic Disorders Clinical and Research Program and the coordinator for the UMass China Mental Health Program.
Taylor received her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Behavior and a minor in Psychology at the University of New Hampshire in 2021. During her undergraduate studies, she was involved in the Laboratory of Brain Science and Cognition which investigated cognitive control and memory in conditions like traumatic brain injuries and Parkinson’s disease. Taylor was also involved in dance during her time at UNH and is interested in how the arts can help serve those with mental illness. Taylor currently serves as the Clinical Research Assistant for the Psychotic Disorders Clinical and Research Program.
