Congratulations to Paul Greer PhD – Recipient of 2022 recipient for The Edward N. & Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation Awards Program in Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Research.

Roger J. Davis, PhD, FRS, and the Cryo-EM Core facility at UMass Chan Medical School have received $2.8 million from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) for the purchase of an advanced Glacios cryo-electron microscope from Thermo Fisher Scientific. The MLSC is an economic development investment agency dedicated to supporting the growth and development of the life sciences in Massachusetts.

Craig Peterson PhD is the recipient of the 2021 Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Dean's Award.   Dr. Peterson is the Vice Chair and Professor in the Program of Molecular Medicine.  Work in his lab is focused on understanding how chromosome structure influences gene transcription, DNA replication and repair, with special emphasis on identifying and characterizing the cellular machines that control chromosome dynamics.

Alpher Kucukural PhD is the recipient of the 2021 Morningside Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Faculty Award.  Dr. Kucukural is an Associate Professor in the Program in Molecular Medicine and Co-Director of the Bioinformatics Core, Program in Bioinformatics and Integrative Biology.

Roger J. Davis, PhD, FRS, has been elected a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.  Davis’ election to the academy recognizes his research on stress signaling pathways that are connected to a range of diseases, such as arthritis, cancer, stroke, heart disease and diabetes.

"Five UMass Chan Medical School scientists from the UMass Diabetes Center of Excellence are part of the JDRF Center of Excellence in New England that launched Tuesday, Feb. 23. The goal of the cross-institutional collaboration is to create a cell replacement therapy that could treat and potentially cure type 1 diabetes. "

Katherine Luzuriaga, MD, talks about the COVID19 vaccine trial about to get underway at UMass Chan Medical School: “Developing the evidence base for using the vaccine in children is a very important part of the public health effort to curtail this pandemic.”

"The bottom line is that we don't know yet what's causing the surge in Manaus," says virologist Jeremy Luban at the UMass Chan Medical School. "The scenarios that people are worried about are plausible, and they're a cause for concern."
