Breast & GYN Pathology Fellowship
Fellowship Description
The one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship at the UMass Chan Medical School is designed to provide in-depth training experience in Breast and GYN surgical pathology cases. The program aims to prepare the fellow for complete independent practice in either an academic setting or private practice. The division of Anatomic Pathology accessions approximately 77,000 surgical specimens, 50,000 cytology, and nearly 750 outside consult cases per year. The UMass Memorial Cancer Center has a nationally-accredited breast cancer center. The fellow's responsibilities include: signing out breast and GYN specimens, both biopsies and excisions, performing frozen sections, previewing consult cases, ancillary/molecular studies, as well as presenting at the weekly tumor boards. Fellows participate in teaching rotating medical students and supervising residents' grossing of complex breast and GYN cases. Research projects are highly encouraged.
Program Requirements: Applicants must have completed a four-year AP/CP or three-year of straight AP residency, and have passed step III of the USMLE, and be eligible for obtaining a medical license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
