Members of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Class of 2024 gathered on Friday, May 31, for the annual awards breakfast and scholarship ceremony.
More than 30 awards were presented to graduating medical students and faculty members during the ceremony.
In her opening remarks, Anne Garrison, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics & gynecology and associate dean for student affairs, addressed the 167 medical school graduates.
“We are excited and happy to celebrate you and to take a moment to acknowledge your accomplishments and celebrate all your collective successes. We are all very proud of you,” Dr. Garrison said.
Terence R. Flotte, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the T.H. Chan School of Medicine, praised students for their resilience and dedication, especially during the start of their medical education at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dean Flotte spoke to the graduates’ camaraderie, collaboration and teamwork, particularly during challenging times.
“I've been inspired by this particular class, their dedication and sense of purpose through these very unusual four years of medical school. It’s remarkable that after an unusual four years of medical school as this group had, that you have come out, really in many ways, at least as well prepared, if not more than any of our previous classes,” Flotte said.
Chancellor Michael F. Collins presented the Chancellor’s Award, the highest award to a graduating student, to Nicholas Peterson, who matched in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
