UMassMed Cares, the new UMass Medical School employee charitable giving campaign, will begin on Monday, Nov. 2, and continue through Wednesday, Nov. 25. UMassMed Cares replaces the former Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employees Charitable Campaign known as COMECC. The new in-house program’s minimized administrative costs ensure that every dollar contributed goes toward addressing causes close to employees’ hearts.
“As our community copes with the effects of a global pandemic and racial injustice, the need of organizations that our donations support is even greater,” said Chancellor Michael F. Collins. “UMass Medical School has established a statewide reputation of giving back to the community through the philanthropic generosity of our faculty, staff and students. UMassMed Cares continues and strengthens these efforts at this time of great need.”
Participants have numerous options for their donations via three funding channels:
North Quadrant Support Services
The support services initiative builds on a successful academic partnership between UMass Medical School and the North Quadrant of the Worcester Public Schools.
UMass Medical School Foundation
Donations can also be directed via the foundation to the Medical School’s COVID-19 Pandemic Research Fund, Diversity and Inclusion Fund, Medical School Research Fund, or Student Financial Aid funds.
United Way
As in the past through COMECC, donors may still direct their contributions to any of more than 1,000 prescreened nonprofit organizations across the globe through the United Way of Central Massachusetts.
“Great things have been provided by funds that have come from the Medical School,” said Maureen Power, principal of Lakeview Elementary School in Worcester’s North Quadrant. “Most recently, we are so fortunate to have been be provided hot spots for students who do not have internet in their homes. I am thrilled to report that we are in daily communication with 100 percent of our kids because of UMass.”
