From the Artisit in Residence exhibit Critters of Southern Africa |
The photography of Allan Jacobson, PhD, the Gerald L. and Zelda S. Haidak Professor in Cell Biology and chair and professor of microbiology & physiological systems, and Denise Brouillette-Jacobson will be the subject of the latest installment of the Lamar Soutter Library’s Artist in Residence series.
The couple has been part of the UMMS family for more than four decades; Dr. Jacobson was one of the founding faculty members of the Medical School. He and his wife, Brouillette-Jacobson, have always enjoyed taking photographs of wildlife during their travels, according to an artist statement, but entered a new dimension of photography opportunities when they visited Africa in October 2016.
“Twice daily photo ‘safaris’ in South Africa, Zambia and Botswana led to numerous extraordinarily close encounters with lions, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, elephants, zebras, hippos and more, and led to the photographs in this collection,” wrote Jacobson.
The exhibit, Critters of Southern Africa, will be on display in the library from June 19 through Monday August 30. For additional information, visit: https://library.umassmed.edu/news-events/lsl-now/critters-of-southern-africa-allan-denise-jacobson.
