Donations sought at UMass Medical School for Worcester Coats for Kids program

Clothing drive to aid families newly arrived from hurricane-ravaged Caribbean, as well as North Quadrant

UMass Medical School is partnering with the Worcester Public School’s Coats for Kids program to provide new and gently used winter outerwear to children—ranging from Head Start to high school— in need in the North Quadrant of the Worcester Public Schools as part of its new North Quadrant Support Services initiative.

This drive will help students in need of winter clothing, including approximately 180 children who have arrived in Worcester recently from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

UMass Medical School is asking faculty, staff and students to help in either of the following ways:

  • Drop off a donation of new or gently used winter coats, sweatshirts (without hoods), hats, scarves, gloves, socks, boots and blankets. Sizes from infant to high school are desired. Bins will be located in the old Medical School lobby, the Lazare Research Building lobby, the Ambulatory Care Center lobby, the second floor atrium of the Sherman Center and at the mailroom at South Street.
  • Donate a gift card or gift certificate, so that Worcester Public School staff can purchase winter clothing for students in need. Please mail or drop off gift cards to Glady McRell in the Office of Community & Government Relations (S2-345).

The winter clothing drive runs through Dec. 18. If you have any questions, please contact the Office Community & Government Relations at 508-856-4400 or at ocgr@umassmed.edu
