Seven Hills Symphony winter concert to feature Young Artist Concerto Competition winners

  The Seven Hills Symphony Orchestra’s will present their annual Young Artists Concert on Feb. 6.

The Seven Hills Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists Concert on Feb. 6 will feature co-winners of the annual Young Artist Concerto Competition, which was held in November for area musicians under age 18. Co-winners of the competition are Hyunnew Choi, a violinist from Newton, and Henri Bouchard, a violinist from Ayer. In addition to performing with Seven Hills, the winners of the competition receive scholarships.

The concert will include performances of Maurice Ravel’s Tzigane by co-winner Choi and Henri Vieuxtemps’ Violin Concerto No. 5 by co-winner Bouchard, as well as Ludvig von Beethoven’s Coriolon Overture and Howard Hanson’s Symphony No. 2, Movements 2 and 3.

The concert takes place at UMass Medical School on Friday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Blais Pavilion of the Lazare Research Building.

Seven Hills is dedicated to providing performance opportunities to amateur, student and professional musicians throughout Central Massachusetts and Northeastern Connecticut as well as access to high quality, low cost symphonic music for members of those same communities. It also promotes music appreciation through outreach programs, including the annual concerto competition. The orchestra performs a varied repertoire under the leadership of professional conductor Scott Chaurette.
