The 2014 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employee Charitable Campaign, which officially ran from Nov. 10 to Nov. 26, was very successful, thanks in part to the many UMass Medical School employees who generously contributed, some for the first time. While pledges are still being tallied, the UMMS total raised exceeds last year’s total of $346,000 and more individuals contributed this year.
“Thank you to all employees who have participated in UMass Medical School’s 2014 COMECC campaign. We were honored to co-chair the campaign this year and we truly appreciate your outstanding support,” said Joyce A. Murphy, MPA, executive vice chancellor of Commonwealth Medicine, and Allan S. Jacobson, PhD, chair and professor of microbiology & physiological systems, in a message to all UMMS employees. “Your generosity is reflective of the public spirit characteristic of members of the UMMS community. Because of you, many great charities will be able to better serve our communities.”
Some departments had 100 percent participation from employees, including Financial Services and Dr. Jacobson’s department. Additionally, MassBiologics increased its participation from 20 percent in 2013 to 61.5 percent this year. And by coordinating their efforts, Commonwealth Medicine and Human Resources increased their participation rate from 34 percent to more than 50 percent this year.
Individuals who contributed were automatically entered into a number of raffles and 40 employees won prizes, including an iPad mini, a month of free parking, theater and restaurant gift certificates, cafeteria vouchers and UMMS sweatshirts and T-shirts.
While the 2014 COMECC campaign has officially ended, employees who haven’t had a chance to contribute yet still have a limited time to pledge to be included in this year’s total. Forms (either paper or electronic at www.COMECC.net) should be submitted as soon as possible so that Payroll has time to process the pledge before the end of the month.
