Primary Care Story Telling: Readings from the Thursday Morning Memo will be presented by the Humanities in Medicine Committee of the Lamar Soutter Library, the Massachusetts Area Health Education Centers Network and the Center for the Advancement of Primary Care at UMass Medical School on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Members of the medical community tell stories for many reasons: to reflect on outcomes, honor patient relationships and process meaning in their work. Known as narrative medicine, telling stories through reflective writing is one way to keep the profession focused on patient-centered care and grounded in humanism.
At the annual event celebrating National Primary Care Month, authors will read selections from the “Thursday Morning Memo,” UMass Medical School’s homegrown forum for narrative medicine. Thursday Morning Memo founder Hugh Silk, MD, MPH, clinical associate professor of family medicine & community health, will moderate.
The event will take place in the library’s Rare Book Room with a reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by readings at 6 p.m. Visit the library’s events page for a complete list of readings and readers.
