Commitment, service, selflessness and loyalty were among the attributes recognized at UMass Medical School’s 35th annual Service Awards Dinner Celebration held in November.
This year 259 employees celebrated milestones, including 21 employees with 25 years of service; 13 with 30 years; four with 35 years; and another four with 40 years.
A number of awards were also presented at the employee celebration, including the inaugural Chancellor’s Award for Advancing the UMMS Mission presented to Public Safety Director Jack Luippold and the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Service presented to Auxiliary Services Director Bill Tsaknopoulos.
Three special awards were presented this year to employees returning from active military duty. Recognized were U.S. Army Reservist Andrews Kyere, a MassBiologics quality control analyst who returned from his third deployment as a medical regulating officer in Kuwait; U.S. Army Reservist Anthony Lapinsky, MD, PhD, professor of orthopedics & physical rehabilitation, who served two tours as an orthopedic surgeon for Operation Enduring Freedom; and U.S. Navy Reservist Mark D. Price, MD, PhD, assistant professor of orthopedics & physical rehabilitation, who received the Bronze Star for service as an orthopedic surgeon in Afghanistan.
