Mai-Lan Rogoff, MD, associate professor of psychiatry and pediatrics, will retire from her role as associate dean for student affairs in June 2013.
“Dr. Rogoff has been a steady presence for medical students beginning on their first day and continuing throughout their education and, indeed, their careers,” said Terence R. Flotte, MD, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor of Medicine, executive deputy chancellor, provost and dean of the School of Medicine.
Since joining UMMS in 1983, Rogoff has been an educational innovator and nationally recognized leader in psychiatry education, receiving numerous awards, including the Lamar Soutter Award for lifetime contributions to medical education at UMMS and the Nancy Roeske Teaching Award for excellence in teaching from the American Psychiatric Association. She founded the Second-Year Oath Ceremony; established the optional enrichment electives; and co-founded the Physician, Patient and Society course.
“Over nearly 20 years, Dr. Rogoff has developed the Office of Student Affairs into a home for all medical students and a place they can count on to meet their needs,” said Dean Flotte. “She is emblematic of the student-centeredness that is a hallmark of the UMMS educational experience.”
Rogoff will continue in her role as associate dean through the end of the academic year and will continue her teaching and service to UMMS as a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry.
The search process for the associate dean for student affairs will be led by Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs Michele Pugnaire.
