Holiday revelers who want to celebrate the season without packing on the pounds should consider some healthy eating strategies, says Sherry Pagoto, PhD, associate professor of medicine.
Dr. Pagoto appeared on New England Cable News’ The Morning Show to share some smart tips on how to avoid overeating.
“If you’re going to change your lifestyle, you need to think about your traditions and your celebrations and how you do them,” Pagoto told NECN’sBridget Blythe. “I’m a big fan of bringing the fruit tray or the veggie tray so I have something that I can munch on the whole time without having to worry about overeating. Then I can control how much I’m eating of the other foods that are probably higher in calories.”
Pagoto also suggested waiting to indulge in holiday spirits until after the meal, avoid going to a big dinner on an empty stomach and bring a fun activity like Wii to get everyone moving after the meal.
