2015 NEGEA Annual Meeting Call Criteria and Proposal Information

Session Types

NEGEA invites proposals that represent original research (either completed or in progress), program evaluation, innovations in medical education, and interactive workshops or discussions with high interest potential. Short communications and posters may be submitted in the categories of Research in Medical Education or Innovations in Medical Education. Abstracts that describe work at any level of medical education (Undergraduate: Pre-Clerkship and Clerkship, Graduate Medical Education, and Continuing Medical Education) will be considered.

The conference theme this year is:  Advancing Medical Education: Aligning Teaching and Technology with Learning and Practice.

Workshops:

Sessions should be planned as 90-minute interactive format about topics with high interest potential.

Proposals are limited to 500 words, excluding title and references, and must include:

• Background/Theoretical Framework, including importance to medical education
• Learning Objectives/Intended Outcomes: Clear goals and objectives and statement of what the session will accomplish
• Format of specific activities within 90-minute time frame
  • Ideal number of workshop attendees, <20, 20-40, 40+, or the number of attendees does not matter
  • References (limit to 5)

This year, we are delighted to offer the opportunity to host simulation-based workshops at UMass’s iCELS, the interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation. We welcome any simulation proposal dealing with pedagogical aspects of the role of simulation in medical education focused on UME, GME, and/or CME, audiences. We ask authors of proposals seeking to use simulation resources to include a separate attachment describing the resources they will need to host a simulation-based workshop. iCELS may be able to provide access to simulation equipment as listed on its site.

Short Communications or Posters:

Format for a short communication is a 10-minute podium presentation given by no more than two presenters, followed by a 5-minute question-and-answer period. Session facilitators will keep each presentation and discussion to the 15-minute limit to ensure all presenters have equal time. Posters must meet the poster criteria.

Please specify if your abstract focuses on Research in Medical Education (i.e., research completed, including [expected] results/conclusions or Innovations in Medical Education (i.e., work in progress, new educational strategy or project, etc.) Up to 5 Excellence in Medical Education Awards may be given in the short communication/poster category.

Research in Medical Education: Proposals are limited to 300 words, excluding references and title, and must include:

• Purpose of the Project and Objectives
• Background/Theoretical Framework
• Methods
• Results (or Expected Results)
• Reflection (including limitations) and conclusions
• References (limit to 3)

Innovations in Medical Education: Proposals are limited to 300 words, excluding references, and must include:

• Goals and Objectives
• Background/Theoretical Framework
• Instructional Methods and Materials
• Reflective Critique, to include strengths, limitations and future directions
• References (limit to 3)
